Virtual Healthy Home Party

Healthy Child Healthy World is an organization that strives to inform parents and caregivers how they can protect children from common toxins. I recently co-hosted a Healthy Home Party with Santee Stroller Strides for our Luna Moms Club. A Healthy Home Party is a haute way to share this important information with friends and family! You're invited to a "virtual" Healthy Home Party:

A Wake-Up Story

The 5 Easy Steps

1. Avoid Pesticides Pesticides have been linked to a wide range of health problems, including asthma and cancer.
2. Use Non-Toxic Products Everyday products like cleaners, cosmetics, and even furnishings contain thousands of chemicals- many linked to health risks.
3. Clean Up Indoor Air Indoor air is often more polluted than outdoor air.
4. Eat Healthy Today's modern diet is laced with chemicals- from pesticides used on farms to synthetic additives and preservatives.

Mama Wants

Recently I had the opportunity to attend a live seminar given by Lisa Druxman (the founder of Stroller Strides) on her newest program Mama Wants. The DVD series, Mama Wants Her Body Back is different from Lisa's previous programs because it's just for mom! "The short 20 minute workouts take into account your busy lifestyle as a mom. Fit one in before your family wakes up, during a child's nap time or anytime that works for you. They're short but super efficient!" (If you're interested in learning how you can work out with your baby check out our giveaway of Lisa's book Lean Mommy) I just wanted to share some of the points from the seminar that have really stuck in my mind and that you can implement on your own.

*It's all about baby steps!*
-You don't have to make the best food choice, just make a better choice
-Engage your abs at all times... grocery shopping, cleaning, etc.
-Try to be a healthy example for your children; this will in turn make you eat healthier too

KEGELS. I've always heard people (doctors, celebrities, friends, etc.) talk about how important kegels are but I never understood why. The pelvic floor muscles are attached to your lower abs aka the mommy pooch! Seriously, put your fingers on your lower abs on the inside of your hip bones and above your pelvic bone and do some kegels right now! You can actually feel your lower abs muscles moving! And the best part is you can do them any time, even when you're driving! Lisa also talked about creating a "butterfly effect" by telling other moms what we learned so that they can tell other moms and so on... So please share these tips with other moms you know!

Lean Mommy Giveaway

If you're anything like me you want to get in shape but don't have the time, energy, resources, et cetera, et cetera. These are nothing but excuses! If you "like" us on Facebook you may have noticed that I've even been procrastinating this review because it actually requires me to work out!

Lean Mommy is written by Lisa Druxman, the founder of Stroller Strides. The Lean Mommy program is a combination of L.E.A.N. (a program Lisa created before getting pregnant that stands for Learn Eating Awareness and Nutrition) and the Stroller Strides program. It's a new (or not so new) mom's guide to working out with your baby and without a gym or any equipment other than your stroller, exercise tubing and a baby carrier.

However Lean Mommy is about more than just getting in physical shape. It's a full mind and body rehab to help you beat all the postpartum issues. The "What You Eat/How You Eat" section is tailored to give you more energy and help combat mood swings. There are also "Mommy Meditations" throughout the book to help you relax and de-stress. The main goal of the program is to become happy, healthy and comfortable with your body during the weight-loss process.

I just started the Lean Mommy program a couple weeks ago and also started attending Stroller Strides classes. The exercises in the book are the same as what's done in the classes so while you don't have to attend classes to follow the program it gives me a sense of accountablility. Which is exactly what I was missing when I was procrastinating starting the program. It's impossible to fully review a program like this after just a couple weeks but so far I'm loving it! I can't wait to be a Lean Mommy!

Win a copy of Lisa Druxman's book Lean Mommy! You can preview Lean Mommy on Amazon (the Introduction starts on page xi) or see some sample exercises on the Stroller Strides website.

Rockin Green Giveaway

I just started cloth diapering (at home only for now) my 14 ½ month old and there was no question what detergent I was going to use! Rockin Green Cloth Diaper Detergent is made of biodegradable, eco-friendly ingredients and is 100% phosphate free which makes it good for the planet and gentle on your little one.

Rockin Green doesn’t believe in a “one-size fits all” approach to cloth diaper laundry so they have 3 different formulas (for different water types) Soft Rock, Classic Rock and Hard Rock. When in doubt, Rockin Green suggests starting with Classic Rock.

Rockin Green also comes in a variety of 100% natural scents with some seriously rockin names:

  • Orangevana - orange and cream combine together to reach a new level of cleaning awareness
  • Smashing Watermelons - this juicy watermelon blend is like a kick to your senses
  • The Green Tea's - the zen like blend of green tea and aloe, is sure to make it to the top of your playlist.
  • Rage against the Raspberry - this raspberry and honey blend will have you running around the laundry room looking for the mosh pit!
  • Mötley Cleän - there's clean and then there's Mötley Cleän. This fresh blend has hints of ocean, fresh linen, and sunshine.
  • Lavender Mint Revival - this medley of lavender and mint is like nothing you have heard or smelled before!
  • Bare Naked Babies- because we love the smell of babies, we offer an unscented variety too!

Rockin Green makes cloth diaper laundry haute! Win a 45/90 load bag of Rockin Green Cloth Diaper Detergent! (Your choice of scent and formula)

Best For Babes

Since today is the last day of World Breastfeeding Week (and the first day that I’ve been able to write anything) I wanted to do an “official” Haute Mommy World Breastfeeding Week post. I breastfed Bryce for exactly a year. He started walking the day before his 1st birthday and self weaned the day after.

I just discovered the Best For Babes foundation last month and I love the “makeover” they are giving breastfeeding! Their haute logo is even featured on a Moby Wrap! (Get 15% off any Moby Wrap purchase with code "hautemoby" good through August 20th) Best For Babes believes that “women are being pressured to breastfeed but set up to fail!” So they want to help moms beat the “booby traps” or “barriers to breastfeeding success.”

Best For Babes Credo: “ALL moms deserve to make an informed feeding decision, & to be cheered on, coached and celebrated without pressure, judgment or guilt, whether they breastfeed for 2 days, 2 months 2 years, or not at all. ALL breastfeeding moms deserve to succeed & have a positive breastfeeding experience without being “booby trapped”!

Why can't breastfeeding be haute? Support Best For Babes on Facebook and twitter! Also, all proceeds from the Best For Babes Moby Wrap go to the Best For Babes foundation.

Dylbug Giveaway

I first discovered Dylbug through babysteals.com (a wonderfully addicting ‘deal a day’ site if you don’t already know) and instantly fell in love with the soft cotton and haute designs. Just recently my son Bryce got to model their new personalized ‘Birthday Boy’ onesies for the website too!

Dylbug offers a great variety of onesies, toddler tees and receiving blankets all handmade with original designs. Most designs can be personalized with the baby’s name and they even take custom orders too! I’m ordering a custom dinosaur onesie for my best friend who is due with her first in September (hopefully she doesn’t read this).

“Leslie Mingo started the company in 2003 after the birth of her first son. She was inspired to create cool, hip designs with a personal touch. Now with two boys and a baby girl, she is constantly designing new and fun graphics for the little ones to wear.” The name Dylbug is actually an adaptation of her first son’s name, Dylan. How cute is that?

Win a Retro Rider Tricycle Toddler Tee! Your choice between the white in size 12-18 months or brown in size 4T (the toddler tees run small).

How to Enter:

Mandatory Entry- Visit Dylbug’s website and let me know what your favorite design is by commenting below. (Make sure you include your email address if it isn’t visible on your profile)

The Beginning

Derek and I met working in a nightclub. He was a V.I.P. host and I was an alcohol promo girl… It was love at first sight! Some would say we were living the “glamorous life” since we only worked weekends and were able to go out and have fun the rest of the week. In fact, our first date was a day trip to Disneyland where we ended up upgrading our tickets to annual passes. That’s when I knew he was a keeper! When we became parents, it was a HUGE lifestyle change. I am now a full time stay-at-home mom and Derek works extremely hard at a “regular” job with “normal hours.” I’m sure if you asked any of my friends or family they would say that I transitioned effortlessly into mommyhood… Being a mom really does seem to come naturally to me BUT the biggest challenge for me has been trying to take care of myself. I never wanted to be a “frumpy mom” but I’m ashamed to admit that I now go days at a time without doing (or even washing) my hair. And I’ve even been known to rock the sweatpants multiple days in a row too! (This is coming from someone who pre-baby wouldn’t wear the same outfit twice.) So now that I’ve survived the first year of being a mom… Join me as I try to find “myself” again and discover what’s haute (and not) for moms and babies.

Derek & I the night we met ♥
